After fourteen years working at small to midsize law firms, René embarked on the next chapter of her professional career and started the Law Office of René P. Moniz. Her love for the law and devotion to her practice combines the skills and knowledge that she gained throughout the course of her career and she applies it towards her practice as an attorney. She understands how important it is to provide clients with compassion during such difficult times.
René graduated magna cum laude from University of Tampa in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree and earned her Juris Doctor degree from Suffolk University Law School in 2009. She is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the state of Rhode Island, the United States District Courts of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Prior to dedicating her career to family law, René represented individuals and corporations in an array of civil litigation matters, including disputes involving contracts, real estate, trusts and estates, construction, employment, insurance and medical malpractice.
In addition to her extensive litigation experience, René is actively involved in the community. She served as Secretary of the Buttonwood Park Zoological Society in New Bedford, Massachusetts, Secretary of the Old Rochester Youth Baseball League and President of the South Coast Business Alliance, a nonprofit organization that raises funds for at-risk youth programs in Southeastern Massachusetts. She has also volunteered with Discovering Justice as a legal mentor for the Mock Appeal After School Program, where she meets with middle schoolers to explore the judicial system, learn case analysis and development, and practice the skills needed to persuasively argue a case in front of a judge. René is extensively involved in pro-bono programs including Attorneys Representing Children (ARC) and Lawyer of the Day for the Probate & Family Courts.
René was recognized as one of the “40 Under Forty” in Providence Business News. She is a Board Member of the New Bedford Bar Association and a member of the Plymouth County Bar Association, Bristol County Bar Association and Barnstable County Bar Association, the Massachusetts Bar Association, the Massachusetts Women’s Bar Association and the Rhode Island Bar Association.
